Background:
John practices business law in Toronto and Tokyo. Specific areas of work include commercial agreements, secured finance, purchase and sale of businesses, licensing, and insurance regulation. His clients include domestic and foreign corporations in several sectors, including automotive, machinery, insurance, logistics, pharmaceutical and luxury brands. John began his legal career with a Bay Street firm in Toronto before establishing a boutique Japan corporate practice (Davis Law Office) in 1995. His Tokyo office continues to serve Canadian and other foreign investor needs in Japan. John has lived in Japan for many years, and represented foreign business interests in Asia as a Governor, Corporate Secretary and President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (CCCJ). He received both his undergraduate and law degrees from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and his LL.M degree from the University of Tokyo in 1990 (LL.M thesis: "Know-how and Patent Licence Guidelines under the Anti-Monopoly Act" (in Japanese)). John was called to the Ontario Bar in 1992, and in 1999 became licensed as a Special Member of the Japan Bar (Foreign Registered Attorney).
