Background:
Mike is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (LL.B.) and also a graduate of the Osgoode Hall Law School (LL.M.) His civil litigation practice focuses on transportation law, related insurance issues, and employment law. He has tried catastrophic personal injury claims and has won a million dollars-plus structured settlement. As a commercial litigator, he has represented major corporations and individual business people on a wide range of issues from non-competition clauses to fiduciary duties. Mike is also an experienced commercial mediator. Mike has done pioneering work in the fields of human rights and employment law: before the Superior Court of Ontario to successfully challenge discriminatory laws; before the Canadian Human Rights Commission in the first ever complaint against the federal government under the Code; before the Ontario Human Rights Commission on the first ever employment of a woman in a Canadian brewery's production line; and before the Ontario Labour Relations Board on the first ever certification of a province-wide union including lawyers. Mike is a member of the Canadian Bar Association's National Council and past chair of the Main Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Ontario Bar Association (1998 - 2000). He is the Past Chair of the Insurance Law Section of the OBA and a member of its Provincial Council. Mike is also a member of the Transportation Lawyers Association, the Canadian Defence Lawyers, the Advocates' Society and the Osgoode Society for Canadian Legal History. Michael
